Cardiac complications of radiation and anthracycline therapy are well recognized and include premature coronary and valvular disease, heart failure, and dysrhythmias (NEJM JW Oncol Hematol Apr 2016 and Ann Intern Med 2016; 164:93).
To assess the radiation dose-effect and the impact of combined anthracycline and radiation therapy, investigators conducted a retrospective, multicenter study involving a cohort of 2617 5-year Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) survivors (age at diagnosis, <51 years) who received treatment between 1965 and 1995. Mean heart radiation doses and left ventricular (LV) radiation doses were estimated from the original treatment plans, as was exposure to anthracyclines.
