In a multicenter study using Swedish national registry data between 2006 and 2013, investigators evaluated how the introduction of high-sensitivity troponin T (hsTnT) assays affected rates of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) within 30 days after discharge in almost 66,000 emergency department (ED) patients with unspecified chest pain.
Analyses were conducted separately on participants discharged after initial short-term admission within the ED (12%) or directly from the ED (88%). Patients discharged after admission were older, had more cardiovascular risk factors, and were more likely to have histories of cardiac diseases than directly discharged patients.
