Most schizophrenia patients are excluded from randomized, controlled trials of antipsychotic drugs because of comorbidity, substance use, nonadherence, and other complications. In a register-based study of all adults in Sweden receiving treatment for schizophrenia between 2006 and 2013, researchers examined the association in actual practice between specific antipsychotics and psychiatric rehospitalization or treatment failure (rehospitalization, discontinuation or change of medication, or death).
