Recent studies of KRAS wild-type advanced colorectal cancer (CRC) have reported mixed conclusions regarding the relative efficacy of bevacizumab versus cetuximab or panitumumab combined with chemotherapy.
Investigators have now conducted an industry-supported, multicenter, open-label, phase III trial (CALGB/SWOG 80405) to evaluate bevacizumab versus cetuximab combined with FOLFOX or FOLFIRI chemotherapy in 1137 patients with KRAS wild-type advanced CRC. Most patients were treated with FOLFOX (73%–74%), had not received prior adjuvant chemotherapy (86%), and had primary tumors of the left side of the colon (60%–61%).
