Many cannabis users say that they smoke to reduce tension. Marijuana is approved in some states for treating post-traumatic stress disorder, despite a paucity of evidence supporting its efficacy. In humans and in animal models, Δ-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a component of cannabis, has shown mixed effects on anxiety.
