It is well known that some adolescents with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) sell or give away their prescribed stimulants. For a study designed to examine diversion by other family members, parents anonymously completed a questionnaire before a community educational talk about children's ADHD.
The 180 respondents from 164 unique households were mostly white (88%) and college-educated (79%); 81% were mothers. About 16% of respondents reported diversion within the family; 11% reported diversion to themselves, and another 13% replied they had been tempted to do so.
