The Boston Bowel Preparation Score (BBPS) is a validated, clinically useful score for colonoscopy cleansing. It is increasingly accepted that scores of 2 or 3 in each of the 3 colon segments constitute an adequate bowel preparation that should be followed by appropriate screening or surveillance intervals based on colonoscopy findings.
In the current retrospective cohort study, researchers compared polyp detection rates (PDRs) at follow-up colonoscopy by adequacy of BBPS score at baseline colonoscopy. Scores of 0 or 1 at baseline were considered inadequate, and scores of 2 or 3 adequate. Only segments evaluated at follow-up with an adequate BBPS score were analyzed.
