Several tools are used commonly for predicting risk for adverse cardiovascular (CV) events in older adults, but they require measuring physiologic parameters such as systolic blood pressure and serum cholesterol levels. The Healthy Heart Score (HHS) is a questionnaire that includes age, smoking status, body-mass index, and self-reported exercise behaviors (hours/week), alcohol consumption (g/day), and dietary consumption (e.g., fruits and vegetables, red meat). In a multisite, longitudinal, U.S. cohort study of 4893 younger patients (mean age, 25) who were evaluated every 6 months for a mean 27 years, researchers validated the HHS. Traditional CV risk factors were assessed at baseline.
