The risk for malignant transformation of branch duct intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (BD-IPMNs) is unclear.
In the current retrospective study, researchers assessed the risk for development of malignancy (high-grade dysplasia or invasive neoplasm) in 577 patients with suspected or presumed BD-IPMNs. Most patients (83%) were asymptomatic at the time of diagnosis, and 63% underwent a minimum of one endoscopic ultrasound. The median follow-up time was 82 months; 63% were followed for >5 years, and 21% for >10 years.
