Because most adults are infected with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV; 90%–95%), studies of adults at high risk for donor-positive/recipient-negative (D+/R−) posttransplant lymphoproliferative disease (PTLD) are limited. Common strategies to prevent PTLD include antiviral prophylaxis and reducing immunosuppression in patients who develop EBV viremia, but these strategies have not been well studied in a high-risk adult population.
These authors conducted a retrospective, single-center study of 153 adult EBV D+/R− solid-organ transplant recipients.
