Given the rapidly increasing prevalence of multiresistant Gram-negative pathogens, there is an urgent need for new agents that retain antimicrobial activity. One such recently developed compound is the siderophore cephalosporin cefiderocol, which has high stability against most β-lactamases, including serine- and metallo-carbapenemases.
