In the general population, moderate alcohol use is associated with improved insulin sensitivity and lower cardiovascular (CV) mortality. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has been linked to insulin resistance and higher risk for CV disease.
To determine if moderate alcohol use also lowers CV risk in NAFLD patients, investigators analyzed data from 5115 black and white adult participants (ages 18–30 years) recruited in 1985 through 1986 for the Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults longitudinal cohort study.
