Corticosteroids are commonly used to induce remission in Crohn disease, including in children. However, enteral nutrition is considered an effective option for treatment of pediatric Crohn disease, whereas there is no convincing evidence of its efficacy in adults.
In a meta-analysis of data from two randomized, controlled trials and six cohort studies comprising approximately 450 children, investigators found no difference in the effectiveness of enteral nutrition compared with corticosteroids for induction of remission, including in both newly diagnosed and relapsing patients, and durability of remission.
