Quantitative assays are emerging as the preferred form of fecal immunochemical test (FIT), yet few comparative studies of commercially available quantitative FITs exist.
In the current study, researchers compared the diagnostic performances of nine different quantitative FITs in testing frozen stool samples collected before screening colonoscopies in Germany between 2005 and 2010. Among a sample of 1667 persons meeting inclusion criteria, 216 with advanced neoplasia and 300 randomly selected individuals without advanced neoplasia were included. The nine commercial assays had preset thresholds for positivity varying from 2.0 to 17.0 µg hemoglobin per gram of feces.
