Although pulmonary hypertension is associated with increased risk for mortality, there is some controversy about the prognostic importance of borderline levels of pulmonary hypertension. In a single-center study, investigators assembled data on 4343 patients undergoing right heart catheterization from 1998 to 2014; patients had a median age of 59, and about half of the sample were women.
The researchers classified pulmonary hypertension as a mean pulmonary artery pressure of ≥25 mm Hg and borderline pulmonary hypertension as 19 to 24 mm Hg.
