Magnetic resonance (MR) enterography has become a popular diagnostic option for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in children due to its lack of radiation and noninvasive nature. Its diagnostic performance across multiple pediatric studies has not been summarized.
Researchers performed a meta-analysis of data from 18 studies including 687 patients (mean age range across studies, 10–18 years) to determine the sensitivity and specificity of MR enterography for detecting active inflammation in children and adolescents with known or suspected IBD. Only studies including reference standards based on histopathologic test findings were included.
