A thiopurine with or without prednisone is considered standard first-line therapy for autoimmune hepatitis (AIH). However, up to 20% of AIH patients have a suboptimal response to such regimens. Several small retrospective studies have supported the use of second-line treatments such as mycophenolate mofetil (MMF), tacrolimus, or cyclosporine.
Now, investigators have conducted a large, multicenter, retrospective study to evaluate the efficacy of MMF in 105 AIH patients who had inadequate response or were intolerant to standard therapy.
