Symptomatic insulinoma is a rare variety of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor that produces chronic and intractable hypoglycemia, which often results in syncopal episodes and seizures, among other symptoms. In the current case series, researchers evaluated outcomes of endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)–guided sclerosant injection into symptomatic insulinomas in seven patients who refused to undergo surgical resection.
The seven patients, whose diagnoses were confirmed via EUS fine-needle aspiration, underwent EUS-guided ablation with the sclerosant lauromacrogol (known in the U.S. as polidocanol).
