B-cell receptor (BCR) pathway inhibitors targeting the Bruton tyrosine kinase (BTK) or phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) are important new agents in lymphoma therapy, albeit with varying efficacy and toxicities.
To test the role of copanlisib, an inhibitor of the PI3K alpha and delta isoforms, investigators conducted an industry-sponsored, multicenter, phase II trial involving 142 patients with relapsed or refractory indolent B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma, including follicular lymphoma (FL; 104 patients), marginal zone lymphoma (MZL; 23 patients), small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL; 89 patients), and lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma (LPL; 6 patients).
