Typical blood pressure (BP) trajectories in later life have not been clearly defined, and the factors mediating any late-life BP changes remain uncertain. To learn more, investigators evaluated individual patient BP changes in a retrospective, population-based study using U.K. primary care and hospitalization databases from 2010 to 2014.
BP trajectories were determined for the 20 years before death in 46,634 individuals who had died at age ≥60 (mean age at death, 82; 52% female). Systolic BPs (SBPs) and diastolic BPs peaked 18 to 14 years before death and then progressively decreased.
