Childhood enuresis is treated successfully with desmopressin and alarm systems, although a high rate of relapse is often reported. In Australia, practitioners report a preference for a bell and rubber pad alarm system for treatment of enuresis. In a manufacturer-funded chart review study, researchers retrospectively examined the efficacy of a bell-and-pad alarm system in 2861 children (aged 5–16 years; 64% boys) at seven clinics across Australia.
Overall, 77% of children achieved a complete response (100% dry for ≥14 consecutive nights) after the initial treatment, and of these, 23% relapsed (>1 recurrence per month).
