Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VRE) is problematic when intrinsic resistance and host immunocompromise have produced deep-seated or endovascular infection. Acquired resistance to antibiotics like daptomycin and linezolid may render treatment of these infections insurmountable.
