This case report from investigators in Japan describes an 80-year-old man who experienced remission of prolonged refractory psoriasis after receiving treatment for chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection with direct-acting antiviral agents.
The patient had a Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) score of 8.3 and had not responded to intensification of treatment with increased potency topical corticosteroids, vitamin D3 analogues, and ultraviolet B phototherapy. His HCV course has been complicated by hepatocellular carcinoma status post resection, mildly elevated aspartate aminotransferase (<1.5 × normal), anemia, and thrombocytopenia, but normal bilirubin.
