Following a first or second cesarean delivery, ample evidence shows that subcuticular sutures outperform staples for skin closure (e.g., NEJM JW Womens Health Jul 2015 and Am J Obstet Gynecol 2015; 212:621); however, little is known about risk for wound complications after higher-order cesarean deliveries. Investigators at one obstetric practice conducted a retrospective study of outcomes in 551 women undergoing tertiary or higher-order cesarean deliveries between 2005 and 2017.
