A large proportion of individuals suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) do not recover, and this chronicity is largely responsible for its associated social, occupational, and interpersonal dysfunctions. To learn about determinants of persistent PTSD, investigators analyzed data on military personnel serving in Iraq and Afghanistan who completed screening questionnaires every 3 years.
Of 2409 service members screening positive for PTSD at baseline, 47% continued to screen positive at 3 years, and 33% had positive screens at 6 years.
