Eradication of Helicobacter pylori can lower risk for gastric cancer (GC). To better understand this effect, investigators identified 73,237 patients in Hong Kong who had received H. pylori eradication triple therapy over a 10-year period and evaluated their incidence of gastric cancer compared with the expected incidence in age- and sex-matched controls from the general population in the Hong Kong Cancer Registry.
GC incidence was lower in the H. pylori-treated group than the general population for patients aged 60 or older (standardized incidence ratio [SIR], 0.82; P=0.02), but not for younger patients.
