While endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) has been the standard of care for endoscopic biliary decompression in pancreatic cancer for decades, interventional endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) approaches continue to attract intense study. Interventional endosonographers can place plastic or metal stents into the biliary tree for decompression, albeit using endoscopic accessories in a largely off-label manner.
