The histologic progression of Barrett esophagus (BE) over time — from intestinal metaplasia through low-grade dysplasia (LGD), high-grade dysplasia (HGD), and intramucosal cancer (IMC) — allows for potential intervention at these stages to prevent invasive esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC). While prior general guidelines on BE have endorsed endoscopic resection and endoscopic eradication therapy (EET) for dysplastic BE and IMC, this is the first guideline to focus specifically on this topic.
