Partner notification (PN) is an important strategy for identifying persons at risk for HIV infection but often is unable to fully illuminate sexual networks owing to various factors including interview refusal, inability to locate contacts, and presence of anonymous partners. In this cross-sectional analysis of sexual networks identified by PN from Wake County, North Carolina, for newly identified HIV-positive persons in 2012 and 2013, investigators assessed the incremental information provided by transmission clusters derived from phylogenetic analysis using pol sequences routinely collected statewide from 1997 through 2014 (n=15,246 genetic sequences).
