To assess continued etonogestrel implant (EI) use 6 months after second-trimester pregnancy termination, women were randomized to receive an EI right after the procedure (immediate group) or at a follow-up visit in 2 to 4 weeks (delayed group).
Among the 73 women in the immediate group, 43 were successfully contacted at 6 months; of these, 93% continued to use the implant and 7% had it removed. Among the 75 women in the delayed group, only 32 returned and had the implant inserted. Of these, 22 were contacted at 6 months, 19 of whom were still using the implant (corresponding to 25% of the entire delayed group).
