Previous studies have demonstrated improved outcomes after infectious diseases (ID) consultation for patients with Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia and cryptococcal infections. Now investigators have evaluated outcomes in hospitalized patients with infections due to multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs), including resistant S. aureus, Enterococcus spp., Enterobacteriaceae, Acinetobacter spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and polymicrobial infections. The analysis included 4214 patients with MDROs isolated from sterile sites or bronchial washings/bronchoalveolar lavage samples at a single institution during a nearly 10-year period.
