But improvements were modest, and long-term outcomes haven't been demonstrated.

Femoroacetabular impingement is caused by premature contact between the femur and acetabulum during hip movements and can be associated with hip osteoarthritis. Treatment options include physiotherapy and surgery, with hip arthroscopy favored over open procedures. In 2014, Cochrane reviewers found no randomized trials to support surgery (Cochrane Database Syst Rev 2014; 9:CD010796).

In this U.K. study, 348 patients with femoroacetabular impingement but no osteoarthritis were randomized to receive hip arthroscopy or physiotherapy.
