In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, manufacturer-funded trial performed at 123 sites, researchers studied the efficacy against migraine headaches and adverse event profile of fremanezumab, a fully humanized monoclonal antibody that binds calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP). Participants had at least 4 but fewer than 15 headache days per month. The 875 patients (21% of whom were allowed to continue treatment with 1 concomitant preventive medication) were randomized to receive either monthly fremanezumab 225 mg subcutaneous injections for 12 weeks, one single high fremanezumab dose (675 mg), or placebo.
