Most pregnancies proceed normally and result in healthy babies. Sometimes, however, problems arise. A common one is gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) — diabetes that occurs sometime during gestation (pregnancy) in women who have never had diabetes before. It's important to find and treat GDM as soon as possible so the mother will have the best chance of staying healthy during the pregnancy and delivering a healthy baby.
