Many Americans supplement their diets with multivitamins in the belief that these may lower their risks for cardiovascular and other diseases. Unfortunately, multivitamin supplementation has, to date, not been proven to reduce cardiovascular diseases. These researchers performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies examining links between multivitamin and mineral (MVM) supplementation and cardiovascular outcomes. The 18 prospective cohort studies (both observational and randomized, controlled trials) were conducted in general populations between 1970 and 2016 and involved 2 million participants and over 18,000 person-years of follow-up.
