Traditional peripheral intravenous (PIV) catheter dressings are comprised of sterile, adhesive, transparent polyurethane films, most of which require replacement during hospitalization due to dislodgement, infiltration, phlebitis, or infection. However, few studies have addressed the effect of dressings and securement on patient outcomes.
