The prior randomized, placebo-controlled IPERGAY trial (NEJM JW Infect Dis Jan 2016 and N Engl J Med 2015; 373:2237) showed that preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) with tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF)/emtricitabine (FTC) before and after sex (“on-demand”) prevented acquisition of HIV in men who have sex with men (MSM). Now, investigators report an analysis of drug resistance mutations among all people in the trial who acquired HIV.
Among the 478 MSM who were screened, 31 were diagnosed with HIV during the study or an open-label extension.
