Regurgitation is the most common refractory esophageal symptom in patients with well-established pathologic reflux. In a manufacturer-supported study, researchers assessed increased dosing of proton-pump inhibitor (PPI) therapy compared with magnetic sphincter augmentation (MSA) in 152 patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and refractory regurgitation despite once-daily PPI therapy. To assess resolution of regurgitation, participants completed quality-of-life surveys at baseline and 6 months; esophageal pH and daily number of reflux events were also measured.
