Ibrutinib is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor approved for the treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and other lymphomas, Waldenström macroglobulinemia, and chronic graft-versus-host disease. Overall, it is well tolerated; fatigue, diarrhea, nausea, atrial fibrillation, neutropenia, and thrombocytopenia are the most frequent adverse events. After several recent reports of opportunistic infections among patients receiving ibrutinib, researchers at one tertiary cancer treatment center launched an investigation.
