Current endoscopic treatments for bleeding peptic ulcers rely on visual endpoints to assess adequacy of therapy. The use of endoscopic Doppler ultrasound probes may allow for a more reliable assessment of therapeutic accuracy with less peptic ulcer rebleeding.
In a retrospective, single-center study, investigators compared outcomes using endoscopic Doppler (ED) versus standard non-Doppler (ND) therapy in 60 patients with bleeding from peptic ulcers who were at high risk for rebleeding. Thirty-five patients were in the ED group and 25 in the ND group. One experienced endoscopist performed all procedures.
