Recent studies suggest beneficial effects of statins on chronic liver diseases and show associations with reduced risks for hepatic decompensation and death. These possible benefits have not been studied in patients with primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC).
In a nationwide, population-based cohort study in Sweden, researchers assessed the effects of multiple drugs, including statins, in approximately 2900 patients with PSC and concomitant inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
