Infliximab was the first monoclonal antibody approved to treat inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Several biologically similar antibodies to tumor necrosis factor alpha have been developed and are currently in therapeutic use, but mostly outside of the U.S.
In a nationwide observational study in France, researchers compared the efficacy and safety of infliximab (IFX) and the FDA-approved biosimilar CT-P13 in over 5000 patients with Crohn disease who were treatment-naive to biologics before being started on IFX or CT-P13.
