The FDA has approved a hexavalent vaccine to protect against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, poliomyelitis, hepatitis B, and invasive disease due to Haemophilus influenzae type b, the manufacturer has announced.
Vaxelis is approved for use in children aged 6 weeks through 4 years. It's intended to be given as a three-dose series at ages 2, 4, and 6 months (an additional dose of pertussis vaccine will be required to complete the primary series). It will not be available until 2020.
