Benefits of Extended-Window Thrombectomy After Stroke Remain Consistent Across Major Subgroups

Subgroup analyses based on occlusion site, CT vs. MRI, age, stroke severity, and time to randomization all demonstrated similar treatment benefits.

The benefits of stroke thrombectomy within extended time-windows of up to 24 hours after symptom onset were well established with the publication of the primary results of the DAWN (NEJM JW Neurol Jan 2018 and N Engl J Med 2018; 378:11) and DEFUSE 3 (NEJM JW Gen Med Mar 15 2018 and N Engl J Med 2018; 378:708) trials.

In this secondary analysis of data from the 182 randomized patients of DEFUSE 3, investigators examined whether the treatment effect was robust across a variety of prespecified and ad hoc patient subgroups.
