The Youth-Nominated Support Team–Version II (YST) is a structured intervention in which adolescents who have been hospitalized for suicidality choose a team of adults (“supports”) from the family, school, or community. In a randomized study of 448 inpatients (mean age, 16; depressive disorders, 88%; substance use disorders, 21%), YST was better than treatment as usual (TAU) in reducing suicidal ideation; improving functioning; and increasing engagement in outpatient psychotherapy, pharmacotherapy, and substance abuse treatment. In this secondary analysis, conducted 11 to 14 years later, researchers reviewed National Death Index data on the participants.
