Feedback and education, including the provision of performance “report cards,” are known to improve polyp detection. However, it is unknown whether this approach improves polypectomy technique, a key component of effective and high-quality colonoscopy.
Using a validated tool for assessing polypectomy competency (Direct Observation of Polypectomy Skills, or DOPyS), investigators graded 110 videos of polypectomies performed by 11 endoscopists, who then received personalized report cards and instructional videos. The DOPyS score ranges from 1 (substandard) to 4 (highly skilled), with a score ≥3 indicating competence.
