In patients with pancreatic masses, the assessment of vascular involvement is often critical in determining overall stage, treatment plan, and prognosis. In these patients, tumor cells can migrate along the outside of large vessels to other sites, producing so-called extravascular migratory metastases (EVMM). Cross-sectional imaging of patients with pancreatic masses often reveals perivascular changes, sometimes referred to as cuffing, that may contain malignant cells.
