The only FDA-approved gliflozin drugs are those that inhibit sodium glucose cotransporter (SGLT) 2 and are used to treat type 2 diabetes. Sotagliflozin is a novel gliflozin that inhibits both SGLT 1 and 2, which affects glucose reabsorption at the renal tubule and glucose absorption in the intestine. Evidence suggests that sotagliflozin lowers glycemic variability and risk for hypoglycemia in patients with type 1 diabetes. In this meta-analysis of six randomized trials (duration, 4–52 weeks), researchers examined the efficacy and safety of sotagliflozin as an oral adjunct to insulin.
