Because women with uterine fibroids often prefer noninvasive treatment and may desire future fertility, efforts to find medical alternatives have intensified. Two industry-sponsored placebo-controlled trials of the selective progesterone receptor modulator ulipristal acetate showed that this treatment diminished bleeding and fibroid size (e.g., NEJM Journal Watch Womens Health Mar 2018 and Obstet Gynecol 2018 Mar; 131:431) Now, the investigators have assessed quality of life (QOL) in a pooled analysis of all 589 participants (mean age, 41; 67% black; mean body-mass index, 32 kg/m2) during and after 12 weeks of oral ulipristal (5-mg or 10-mg daily) or placebo.
