Idiopathic noncirrhotic portal hypertension (INCPH) is relatively uncommon and defined as portal hypertension in the absence of cirrhosis and portal and hepatic vein abnormalities. Patients with INCPH have preserved liver function but may develop portal hypertension–related complications. Abdominal surgical risk in patients with cirrhosis is well characterized and typically related to liver function and degree of portal hypertension. However, little is known regarding the surgical risk in patients with INCPH.
